The Culture is very Eco centric. They protect and allow their land to rest. But they have no clue that their land needs to heal. They listen, but they don’t respond much.
Winter’s are cold here in Chile. In the water, you wouldn’t last 1 hour on the hottest day of the year wearing trunks. As you start a conversation, you notice that their lack of emotion prevents a connection.
You see signs asking for the freedom of those whom have disappeared since the 1970’s. Signs that Augusto Pinochet is a Murderer. Protests that proclaim that “Neither Forget Nor Forgive”(Pictured Above).
Maná, my favorite band from Guadalajara redid “Desapariciones” (Disappearances), a song by Ruben Blades. This song explains how a few conversations could have gone as victims looked for their loved ones. I always wondered where this story took place, but I would have never thought I would spend 12 days there.
Many people wondered why we came to Chile. They asked because they were used to people leaving and taking, instead of arriving and giving. After laboring with the brethren, the brethren insisted that we come back soon. The Leadership here, both secular and saved, have an overarching theme “The Harvest is Plentiful, but the Laborers are few”.
In Luke Ch. 7, many came to Jesus asking if He was the Coming One, or should they look for another? Jesus responded
“Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.”
Chile needs to recognize it’s only remedy. They need their Joy restored, it has disappeared along with their feelings, their emotions, and their confidence. Jesus came that you may have life, and that more abundant.
2 Cor. 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
