It is safe to stay quiet and please everyone.
But I’m not in prison.

After all the dust had settled. After I lost a few “friends”. After I preached that Sunday Morning. After everyone left. I got emotional.

Why? Could it be that maybe we are afraid of the Holy Spirit? We are scared of the possibility of being the catalyst that causes one person to change their mind and embrace a new destiny? Are we scared because we know its going to be messy? We know its going to break some rules. We know its a little too punk rock for our conservative ideology. I mean come on, people going from breathing threats against the church to becoming the writer of most New Testament Literature?

You know what I loved about reading Acts 9 this morning, it was the fact that Ananias was scared to love on Saul of Tarsus.

13 “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.”

Can you hear the trembling? So discomforting, so challenging, so threatening, and yet God willed it. Why would God call you to love on a certain city, people group, or culture different than your own? Because maybe, just maybe, what Jesus said was true . . .

“My Father is still working, and I am working also.” John 5:17

Maybe God is actually doing what He said He would do, and that is just too much to have faith in. Friends, I challenge you to press in deep. Deep into the crevices of your faith, and think about this for a second. Could it be that the people we are most inclined not to love, be the people whom God has chosen to change the world? Could it be that the people we are too scared to share with, be the chosen vessels of God’s Glory? Look at how God responded to Ananias:

15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.

Tomorrow, as you wake up and go to work, pray that God would remove the fear that haunted Ananias, and that He would replace it with the love He needed to encourage a former enemy of the Cross.

Be led by the Spirit, and remember, its only scary when you don’t obey His Voice.
