I remember being lost, but trying fervently to find myself. Back when there was no dispensaries and you weren’t worried that the homie was pinching your stash because it would secure that you weren’t carrying more than half an ounce. There was no uber, lyft, and I was too proud to say I couldn’t drive.

I remember parading myself from bar to bar on 2nd Street. Back when Dogz Bar & Grill was Belmont Station, Simmzy’s was Shorehouse Cafe, and Baja Fish Taco was the Old Sweet Jills. From 2nd street to Iguana Kelly’s for their flavorful Bloody Mary’s, and then up the street to Alex’s to catch the headlining act of the Punk Rock Show.

This weekend, they are shutting the streets down for people who are just like I used to be. Citizens of the city I love, humans just like me,  trying to find the meaning of life while imbibing their favorite beverage. As Solomon said, “There is nothing new under the sun”, and as Dave Matthews quoted Isaiah, “eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die…”. Though we are all sojourners, I believe the journey begins in the same place where others have lost hope.

Friends, I want to tell you, there is more. There is more to be discovered. Facets that have yet to make an impact. Saturday and Sunday will be filled with celebration, but Monday after the dust has settled, and you return to work and tell of all your stories . . . if you are like me, 5pm will come quickly and satisfaction will again be a hunger yet to be satisfied.

Whomever you are, Life is more than paycheck to paycheck, or pride week to pride week, and relationship to relationship. I’m here to tell you, it wasn’t until I discovered my eternal worth that I was able to live a rich life. A life that makes you look at the city differently. A life that is selfless, compassionate, joyful, and full of new adventures. If this is something you’ve yet to discover, or if Monday is coming in hot and  the “Satisfaction-Hunger-Pains” seem unquenchable, check out what Jesus said:

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”- John 10:10

God loves you abundantly, and knowing this is the beginning of true life.

Be Encouraged,

HM
